Prologue -
As a member, have you ever given thought to exactly what you seek to accomplish at CMOKC beyond your own goals for you and your dogs?
Do you have a broader focus?
I mean, let's face it, there is that undeniable devotion to dogs in general that beats within us and brings us to the doors of this club, along with the "not to be missed" opportunity to share "war stories" with others who have the same addictions and goodness we can't rule out an unbelievable willingness to overlook dog hair everywhere!!
Still....why "did" we join CMOKC? Are we here as takers or givers? Well hopefully it is a little bit of both!
It is easy for any of us to become complacent in our same routines and if we take a reality check, we might find ourselves just "doing" the minimum as a member because, our days get full or we get tired or you know...life just has a habit of getting in the way! However, once in a great while when we least expect it someone comes along and stirs the water with questions seldom asked and those who are listening begin to give those disturbed waters some thought. Like our own proverbial "dog with a bone", we just can't let it go until we truly get to the meat of it with a good gnawing!
Our club is VERY fortunate to have devoted members who have been a part of our organization and the dog world for many years. They have stood in the trenches, rose to every occasion and done whatever was necessary time and again to keep CMOKC in existence whether it was their job or not. They are the quiet band of troops working among us who "believe" in our club and why we exist. They "ooze" of experience, guidance and knowledge and all of us, new and old should not only be thankful, but giving thanks to them often for the wealth of information they are willing to share with us so we might succeed!
Which brings me to the reason for this prologue. Along with all the jargon and protocol we must follow as an AKC Club, there are also words of wisdom coming from the back of the room we really shouldn't miss!
Below are comments from a long standing member who always goes above and beyond what is asked. She genuinely believes in CMOKC and has put some positive thought into responding to some recently asked questions about our club, our purpose and our mission.
~ CMOKC ~
We are a social club that is bound together by our common enjoyment of dogs. Some of us enjoy training and competing with our dogs. Some of us may breed our dogs with the goal of improving on what we have. For some the goal is to share their knowledge with others. There are as many variations as there are members.
As a club we showcase our love in many ways: The biggest is our annual licensed show weekend. We support and participate in “Paws in the Park.” We take stable, kid friendly dogs to local schools to educate youngsters on how to properly greet a dog and to show off some of the fun things we do with our dogs.
We sponsor Conformation classes that help the newcomer learn and gives practice to the experienced exhibitor and his/her dog. When finances are good, we offer a small scholarship or make a donation, for example, to a Vet Student studying small animal practice or to a Junior going to Westminster or Eukanuba.
We are a social club that needs its members to volunteer to do many jobs. We can’t function without volunteers. Not only is the Board of Directors made up of volunteers, every position on any committee is a volunteer position. Everything we want our Club to do depends on the actions of volunteers. Each member has a responsibility to contribute to the functioning of the Club.
Whatever the Club wants to accomplish, will only happen if a volunteer does it. We always need more active members and welcome your inquiry.
The proper question for members as well as applicants should be: How can I help?.... I can offer_____.
